Servizi Ospedalieri S.p.A starts testing a new solution for the recovery of flexible film used to pack sheets and uniforms

servizi Ospedalieri will be the first company in Italy to experiment with the RE.WIND® solution in the healthcare sector, which involves the use of a 100% recycled polyethylene film that, after use, will be collected by Servizi Ospedalieri itself from customers and recycled to be reintroduced into the production cycle. The film used will therefore be up to 100% recyclable and recycled.

Thanks to the adoption of the Re.Wind solution, Servizi Ospedalieri will therefore be able to reduce atmospheric emissions by 1.15 tonnes of CO2 for every tonne of film used, Calculating that Servizi Ospedalieri S,p.A. uses an average of 407 tonnes of polyethylene each year, the new solu tion will allow a reduction of more than 468 tonnes of CO2 per year.
The process of complete reuse of the post-consumer film (LD-PE) will also guarantee a clear environmental advantage compared to the conventional process, which involves the use of virgin LDPE material and the production of waste to be disposed of, used in downcycling processes, or incinerated to produce energy, allowing a reduction  the Global Warming Potential (GWP1) indicator of 35.6%

In fact, the RE. WIND® project, developed by Attix, has been recognised as Best Practice at European level by the ECESP (European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform network), as well as a Circular Economy ‘good practice’ by the ICESP (Italian Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform), a network promoted by Enea.

per After the innovative collaboration started with Movopack to reduce the use of disposable packaging in the health sector through the adoption of innovative packaging that can be reused for an average of 20 cycles in the supply of its clothing for radiation protection (the aprons and collars worn by health personnel in procedures where X-rays are used for zi medical-diagnostic use), Servizi Ospedalieri S. p.A. thus con-ta firms, also through this new initiative, its commitment to the le experimentation of circular economy solutions to reduce the impact of packaging and wrappings and to foster a culture of reuse.

The adoption by Servizi Ospedalieri S.p.A. of the new solution for the recovery and reuse of flexible packaging film will be tested in the coming months in all the healthcare facilities that use the Group’s laundering services.

“This new project is a further demonstration of how cutting-edge solutions enable a perfect synergy between sustainability and innovation, as well as a virtuous example for setting new standards at every stage of service management in the healthcare sector, also in the B2B market,” – said Camilla Senzani, Chief Operating Officer of Servizi Ospedalieri S.p.A. “We can therefore only be satisfied with the start of experimentation in the healthcare sector of the RE.WIND solution, which promotes the culture of re-use and a signi-sani- ficant reduction in the environmental impact of our activities.
